This painting is about the sense of protection that brothers and sisters share. The surf is loud and large; instinctively, the older sister hugs her brother, who is transfixed by the wave, but also somewhat scared. He hugs her back, and they wait for the wave to become the froth around their ankles, making way for the next breaker in the never ending pattern of the tide. It's a magical day at the beach!
